Ocean World Marina Review

There are not many options when it comes to marinas on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic. We opted to stay at Ocean World Marina because we were told they made the check-in process easy. With this being our first time in the country and our limited Spanish we wanted to take the easiest route possible. We were overall extremely pleased with Ocean World Marina in the Dominican Republic, here is why:

Dockmaster

When we arrived at Ocean World Marina we were greeted by Eddie and his crew. They were a big help docking and informing us of the customs and immigration process. Eddie spoke great English and was filled with helpful information about the area.

Customs Process

The main reason we stopped at Ocean World Marina was because we read that clearing customs at the marina was much easier than in Luperon. All the appropriate personnel we needed to check in with were stationed right at the marina. Eddie informed us who would be coming to the boat, what paperwork, we needed, and how much it would cost so there was no surprises or hidden fees. The clearance process includes meeting with the Navy, Drug Enforcement, Customs and Immigration. The marina concierge helped us communicate with all parties and the process was quick and stress free.

The cost of immigration is $43.00 per vessel as well as $10 per person. You will also pay the Navy $20 for a dispatch letter (despacho).

We were very happy with how easy the entire process was. We travel with our dog, Jetty, and were a little nervous about checking in with her. For more information on clearing customs in the Dominican Republic with a dog click here.

Fuel Dock

Both Diesel and Gasoline are offered at the fuel dock.

At the time of our visit in June 2019 the price of Diesel was $4.57/gallon and Gasoline was $5.50/gallon. The fuel we received was clean and we had no issues. However, it is always recommended run your fuel through a screen (like this one) to remove any possibility of particles clogging your filters.

Wifi:

We had a weak, sometimes non existent signal at our slip (we do not have a wifi antenna) but it worked decent closer to the lobby.

Laundry:

You can opt to do it yourself or pay an extra $3 per load to have it done for you. When we were there the man on duty for laundry services was also named Eddie. His English was broken but worked with us on our Spanish so we could communicate. He was extreamly nice and we had fun talking with him. The machines were large and the room was clean.

Bathrooms and Showers:

The bathrooms and showers were clean with many separate stalls. The only downside to them was the fact that they were located on the downstairs of the lobby which was a long walk from our slip.

Rental Car Services:

The marina concierge set up our car rental right from the marina lobby. The car was delivered there quickly and it was very clean.

Upholstery and Canvas Service:

We wanted to get extra shade made for our boat before we left Florida. Ocean World Marina ReviewWe received a few quotes and were stunned by the prices and wait time. Ocean World offered canvas work so we inquired about the price. We worked with a man named Tommy. Our new shade took two days to make and was $200 less than all the quotes we received in Florida. The project came out better than expected and we would HIGHLY recommend getting work done here.

Restaurant

The Ocean World Terrace offers local dishes as well as your typical burger and fries. The food was much cheaper than you would find in the US but very high quality. We highly recommend the Mofongo for lunch! There is an ATM inside which came in handy for getting local currency for tipping our tour guides and cash-only restaurants.

Attractions

Prior to entering the marina we did a quick search online to see what we would be arriving too. We were a little skeptical reading that there was a casino, night club, and adventure park on the premises. These things are not quite our scene. During the day they were no bother at all. In the evening and into the night the music was a little loud, especially downwind of the club. We were upwind so it did not bother us too much.

I could see the music being a bit annoying if you just came in from a long sail and needed some sleep but were docked downwind of the noise. If there is room and the music bothers you at night I am sure they would not mind relocating you upwind if you are respectful and ask nicely. Overall we were pleasantly surprised how low key these attractions were.

Security:

There is 24-hour security on the entire Ocean World Complex. The guards were prevalent and very friendly.
