Overall fitness means to be healthy mentally and physically. It means to be living an active lifestyle and having fun. It means to be continually working on and improving all aspects of fitness including conditioning, strength, flexibility, balance, and agility. Greg Glassman is the founder of crossfit and most agreee that his 100 word definition of fitness describes it all.
“Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports.”
I found Crossfit a few years ago and have been using Crossfit as my primary training tool ever since. I love the competition and community that comes with Crossfit. I also have seen amazing results from all the functional dynamic movements we do. Crossfit has helped me in my other sports as well. My strength and speed has improved when I am running on the beach or paddling and the flexibility and balance I have gained from gymnastic type movements have been beneficial through every day life.

The Crossfit Open is a competition where people from across the world enter to test their level of fitness. This year over 110,000 people have entered in the Open. Every week for 5 weeks a different workout is announced and you have until Monday evening to submit your top score for that workout. I am super excited to see where I stand at the end of these 5 weeks compared to the >100k people who have signed up worldwide.
