Things To do in Grenada

Grenada🇬🇩

We have been lucky enough to spend the last few months exploring all Grenada has to offer.  Grenada is a BEAUTIFUL mountainous island surround by blue water and filled with friendly people. Below is a list of our very favorite things to do in Grenada. We had our boat here and could dinghy to a few of these places but the majority of them we drove to in a rental car:)

Snorkel the Underwater Sculptures

Sign up with any of the local dive shops or take your own boat just to the North of St. Georges Anchorage. There are moorings that were in good shape during our many trips. All sculptures are between 7 and 20 feet. Snorkeling the area was no problem but if you like to stay down longer SCUBA trips are also available. The Sculptures represent different parts of Grenadian culture. They are made from concrete and rebar with a goal to attract coral growth and help the ecosystem thrive. Our favorite sculpture was “Vicissitudes” a circle of children holding hands. According to Pure Grenada, the children’s transformation by nature, as they become remodeled by the environment and coral growth reflects the changes of growing up through a lifetime. Scuba Dive

We love to SCUBA dive and were overjoyed when Dive Grenada had a few spots open to allow us to dive with them at Flamingo Bay. Dive Grenada is located right on the beautiful Grand Anse Beach and we were able to dinghy right to the shop. On this dive, luck was on our side and we spotted a flounder, seahorse, flamingo tongue snails, many different reef fish (some we had never seen), and an overall a thriving coral ecosystem. The staff was beyond helpful and our divemaster, Cojack, had a keen eye for spotting out all the coolest critters! The owners are Phil and Helen and I promise you will be in good hands.

Royal Mt Carmel Falls

Things to do in Grenada Royal Mt. Carmel Falls

Royal Mt. Carmel has been our favorite waterfall so far. Not only for its beautiful scenery but for its slides that send you down to the pool below. Mt. Carmel is located about two miles south of Grenville. The falls are on a private plantation and there is a $2.50 EC charge per person. You may also hire a guide but there is not much need for one. The hike to the falls is about 10-15 minutes, nicely groomed and straight forward. There are a few small hills but nothing too strenuous. The path will lead you right to the beautiful falls. Carefully climb the rocks and enjoy a high-pressure cool shower or jump in the small pool and enjoy the swim. On the way back you can meander off to the left and find our favorite part of visiting Royal Mt. Carmel. The lower falls have created a natural slide in the smooth rock and made us feel like we were visiting a water park. We had a blast racing and finding new paths to slide down. Have fun but be careful!:)

Hike Mt Qua Qua

Things to do in Grenada- See the Mona Monkeys

If you are up for a great workout then this is the perfect hike for you! The hike up Mt. Qua Qua promises views of Great Etang Crater Lake and the entire town of St. Georges. It had rained right before we started climbing and the trail was slippery in parts but we highly recommend going for it! Wear treaded sneakers and bring plenty of water to make the most out of this hike!  After you finish stop by the spice booths and pick up a few souvenirs from Selma. She will even call in the Mona Monkeys and give you a little show!

Seven Sisters Falls

If you are up for a complete day of adventuring you can pair your Mt. Qua Qua hike with an adventure to Seven Sisters Falls. They are only about a 5-minute drive from each other. The hike to Seven Sisters is more strenuous and less groomed than Royal Mt. Carmel but equally as beautiful. It is about one mile each way to the falls, the way there is mostly downhill and on the way back you face the uphill workout. Once you arrive you will see two falls each with large swimming pools. If two falls are not enough for you, take the barely noticeable path to the right of the lower falls and climb your way through the forest until you reach the top with multiple more smaller pools leading into each other. If you decided to take this route, be prepared to jump off the larger waterfall you spotted at the entrance 😛 The hike up to the upper pools and the traverse down is very difficult and a guide is typically recommended.

Belmont Estate

Things to do in Grenada- Belmont Estate

If you are all hiked out, an afternoon spent at the Belmont Estate is a nice way to recover 🙂 Here you can learn all about the process of growing, making, and selling fine organic chocolate. Our tour guide was extremely informative, enthusiastic, and even offered samples of the Belmont chocolate and “chocolate tea” which were both absolutely delicious. Our favorite was the white chocolate with lemongrass! We bought a few boxes to share with family and friends because who doesn’t love chocolate?!

Do not leave the Estate without enjoying a delicious lunch! It is Buffet style and will probably end up being your favorite dining experience of the trip. You will be seated and presented with a warm towelette. Next, you will be offered a choice of soup and freshly squeezed juice before being sent to the buffet. The buffet offers many traditional Grenada dishes and will leave you feeling like you stepped into a part of their culture. Just when you thought you couldn’t eat anymore you will be offered a choice of dessert all while overlooking the beautiful estate with a comfortable mountain breeze.

Grand Anse Beach

Things to do in Grenada - Grand Anse Beach

This is the longest beach on Grenada and is perfect for morning runs and swims or just relaxing on the white sand beach. There are many hotels, restaurants, and even a craft market lining the beach.

Surfing

There are a select few surf spots around Grenada. If there’s a swell in the water and you go out of your way to search for a wave you will be glad you did 😉

Other adventures on our list!

Concord Falls

We have heard this hike is a must-do in Grenada. We have family coming to visit soon and we hope to make the trek with them! The hike begins in Great Etang National Park and according to Lonely Planet, this is for serious adventurers ONLY.  It is a five-hour one-way trip and a guide is a must. We will report back after we make it 🙂
