Quarantine tips

Before we get started I want to send out a huge THANK YOU to all the essential workers out there. You all are keeping the world turning ❤️ Everyday life living on a boat is not too different from everyone’s current quarantine situation. We have perfected the art of staying sane, active, healthy, and entertained in a very small isolated space. Today I will share all our quarantine tips with you!

Quarantine does NOT have to be boring!

Games:

Staying sane during Quarantine Ya ya ya you can spend the day binge watching Netflix or the news but you may be rotting your brain. The alternative is playing games! Card games and board games are one of our favorite nightly activities on the boat. Challenge your quarantine company to a game of spit or rummy!

If you are separated from friends or family you can still have game night via Google Hangouts. We have spent time with family from thousands of miles away all from the safety of our boat. Codenames is a super fun online game you can play with a group! If someone in the group owns the game Scattergories they can take pictures of a handful of cards, set themselves up as a presenter and display the cards for everyone to use and play together!  Google Hangouts is also a great way to have a virtual birthday party or happy hour with your dearly missed friends.

Stay Active:

The gyms, beaches, and parks are closed but that does not mean you need to turn into a couch potato! There are dozens of free fitness apps and youtube channels that design workouts that you can do right from home during quarantine. These works require little to no equipment. I love the free FitOn app as well as Orangetheory Fitness’ new at-home workouts on youtube.

I would love to have an entire set of weights on the boat but as you know, space and weight are an issue. We do however have a few pieces of equipment that are very versatile and take up little to no space. The first is our beloved sandbag. It can be filled up to your desired weight using sand, rocks, or anything else you want to throw in to add a few pounds. It has multiple handles for many different grip/exercise options. The other is a set of mini bands. Mini bands are used to add resistance to many different exercises. You can find some great mini band exercises here.

Cooking/baking:

Now is a great time to test out making some new dishes. I love to scroll Pinterest to find healthy easy meals to make for dinner. One I have been loving lately is Zucchini Lasagna. Pinterest is great because you can pretty much type in any food item and then recipe and you will get plenty of delicious looking options. I have noticed that meat has been hard to come by at the grocery stores. We substituted our weekly cheeseburger meal this week for this black bean burger recipe and it was surprising really good!

Projects:

Staying sane during Quarantine Do you have a boat/house project list that typically gets neglected during your normal busy schedule? Now is the time to start checking it off! Although I would suggest completing projects that do not require a trip to the store! How is that yard looking ?? On a boat, we don’t mow the lawn or pick weeds but we do scrape the bottom and clean the scum from the waterline!

Grab a book!

The news can sometimes play a loop of nothing but depressing headlines. Grab a book and get lost in another world! If you have a Kindle and a library card did you know that you can reserve e-books from most libraries online for FREE?? This has been one of my greatest finds living on the boat. No more searching for good books (not easy on small islands), buying them, and then donating them just hoping they get read again. My kindle and library card are two of my very favorite things!! Amazon offers free E-books with an Amazon Prime membership (free 30-day trial here). Kindle Unlimited members also get a library of millions of e-books and thousands of audiobooks (get a free month here).

Youtube:

Youtube is a great way to learn something new, see places you have always wanted to go, and maybe even give you a little escape from the crazy world that we are all living in right now. We are spending our time in lockdown editing away to give you as much content as possible. Tune in to our latest episode for loads of sunshine and smiles ☀️ If you think it could help make someone’s day a little brighter please give it a share 🙏🏻

I hope this gave you a few new activity ideas so you can enjoy quarantine a bit more! We hope the world can return back to normal soon. In the meantime stay healthy, active, and sane.

Thanks for reading.
