Sailing Florida Gulf Coast

Florida Gulf Coast Sailing & Boat Anchorages

We are sailing our way around the Florida Mini Loop in a counter-clockwise direction, and as we continue, we have anchored our boat in a variety of spots along the Gulf Coast to enjoy the scenery and the little towns the coast has to offer. We make a pit stop in Cayo Costa, where we found some hiking trails to take our pup, Jetty. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on this beach, so if you are bringing your furry friend along, keep this in mind. After our hikes, we continued to sail and stopped in a cove along the waterway just near Cayo Costa. These coves are a good place to stop to hangout and relax. If you are lucky, a manatee just might stop by to say hello! We had a very unfortunate drone instance but I guess if you fly a drone as much as we do mistakes are bound to happen once in a while.

Living the Jimmy Buffet life: Cheeseburgers in Paradise!

As we anchored near Cayo Costa, we realized we were only a short boat ride away from Cabbage Key’s restaurant – the home of the Cheeseburger in Paradise! We have all heard THE famous song, but how many of us have actually tasted THE burger IN paradise? No further questions, we had to live the experience out ourselves.

Our Review: Sailing Cabbage Key

Cabbage Key is a small island located just to the East of Cayo Costa State Park and is a spot we would recommend checking out. If you plan on visiting Cabbage Key’s restaurant, be sure to keep busy lunch hours in mind. We say the burger definitely lived up to Jimmy Buffet’s hype! After we ate, we strolled along the nature trails on the island. Overall, we would definitely recommend this pit stop for anyone sailing along the West Coast of Florida.
